Every Memorial Day Weekend for quite some time to come you will be able to find me at the Winchester Country Club Memorial Day Match Play Tournament.  Bobby Baldwin, Head Golf Professional at the country club puts it on every year and does a fantastic job.  The 2009 Tournament marks the 73rd anniversary for this great event.

I played in this Tournament for the first time back 2007 and to say this least I got my butt handed to me.  At the time it was the first time I had played in a competitive golf tournament since junior golf back in 1997.  I am not making excuses but competing in a match play golf tournament brings on a different type of pressure.  Even Tiger can lose to a # 8 seed in the Accenture Match Play Tournament.

After my debut two years ago I returned this year to lose in the second round.  In a close match Sunday afternoon I got closed out on the 17th hole.  For anyone who has the ultimate competitors’ gene inside of them I encourage you to take up the game of golf and compete in match play tournaments.  It might drive you crazy…well, it will drive you crazy but the utter excitement of winning and improving each time you go out will keep you coming back again and again.

A great Memorial Day Tournament Tradition is the Snowden Family Pool Party (pictured above).  Papa Snow is my dentist and I am great friends with his son and they are the ones who introduced me this great tournament.  They are avid UK fans and loyal KSR readers.  They are the UK fans of the day!
