UK Fans of the Day Want Afternoon Notes and New 2010 Name

by:Matt Jones04/12/10
keene Another gorgeous day in the Bluegrass. Here we go: --- Another potential UK name on the rise. Marcus Thornton, the Georgia Mr. Basketball who signed a LOI with Clemson has now received a release and the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that UK has "Heavy interest." We will try to learn more as the day goes along. --- We continue to move towards the big decision Wednesday from Brandon Knight. And as of now, all signs still point to Knight becoming a Cat. The Miami Herald said today that multiple sources told the paper that Knight was coming to Kentucky and as of now, no sources are saying the opposite. The next few days are crucial for UK recruiting, but no decision is bigger than the one at 4 pm on Wednesday. We will live blog the event and you need to be here early to survive the inevitable site crash. --- The Rod Strickland news has gone all over the globe today. The question now is whether Strickland will remain as a UK coach. At this point there is no indication one way or the other, but if I were guessing, I would be surprised to see Calipari cut Rod loose without a landing spot for him. The facts will continue to come out as the days go by, but for now, Strickland is still on the staff. --- It looks as if Rick Stansbury will not end up at Clemson according to Jeff Goodman. The buyout on the MSU deal was apparently too rich for the Clemson folks' taste and thus Stansbury gets another year in Starkville. Its a tough scenario for both parties as now Clemson looks spurned by a coach and the MSU people know that Rick thought about leaving. Clemson is back to the drawing board at this point and may next be targeting Bryan the Intern. --- UK will get a visit from Terrence Ross in the near future. Ross is the kid from the Pacific Northwest who is boys with Terrence Jones (there is a rule in that area of the country that you can only be friends with people who have the same first name as you do) and who has been rumored to be a package deal with Jones. While the package deal thing is likely not correct, it has often been thought that Ross was a backup plan to Doron Lamb. Doron's decision comes on Saturday, but with so many open scholarships, it may be a "come one, come all" type thing at this point. --- Calipari repeated again that UK will have only four returning players. That would seem to add credibility to the assumption that Darnell Dodson will be gone. More as the day progresses....
