UK Hockey Drops Opener, Loves Crowd

by:Adam Schilt09/22/13
ukhockey Lexington's favorite club hockey team hit the ice for the first time this weekend, taking on D1 Indiana in their first two games (the first at the Lexington Ice Center, the second at IU). Keep in mind that the Cool Cats are a D2 ACHA squad, meaning that taking on the Division 1 Ice Queens from Indiana is a tall task to say the least. Nevertheless, the Cats did not disappoint the thousands of fans who crammed their way into the packed ice center at midnight, dropping a close decision 3-2. If nothing else, that should get everyone in blue excited for the rest of the season, which will feature home matches against hated foes like West Virginia, Cincinnati, and Robert Morris. And that's just this semester. The season will carry into the spring with matches against Ohio State and a couple of chances for revenge against the Hoosiers. Never been to a UK hockey game? This season seems like a good time to start. Just make sure you get there early. The tweet below, retweeted by UK Hockey on Friday night, shows just how much students love their Cool Cats. https://twitter.com/JacksonLReams/status/381263407204147202 You can follow along on KSR for all your Cool Cats needs this season. I'll be by to give you updates on the team's performance each weekend, but I hope you'll be in the stands yourselves. The team takes on Louisville this Friday night, so expect a loud and offensive environment--just the way this team likes it. As always, the puck drops at MIDNIGHT.
