Falling to 7-11 in the SEC, the Wildcats have lost all of their conference series in April, going 4-8 during that stretch. Winning two straight games today, the Tigers finished the series against the Wildcats 2-1. Kentucky has now lost two straight home series, with the last win coming against the Alabama Tigers over a month ago. Gaining an early lead, Kentucky was up 3-1 at the top of the 3rd before a nine-run third inning by the Tigers put the game out of reach. Renee Abernathy and Mallory Peyton were the only ones with RBIs; Peyton with two and Abernathy with one. Tatum Spangler was the only player with multiple hits, going 2-3, while Abernathy, Peyton, and Autumn Humes all got a single hit. https://twitter.com/UKsoftball/status/1386405118434627585?s=20 However, a home run by Amanda Doyle in the second, and two more at the top of the 3rd by Morgan Cummins and Taylor Tidwell, was all it took, putting LSU up 10-3. Cummins added three RBIs, and a run in her three plate appearances, while Tidwell added another RBI and was walked twice. https://twitter.com/LSUsoftball/status/1386413803202506753?s=20 The barrage of home runs was enough to get Autumn Humes pulled from the game, who finished the game giving up eight runs, six hits while striking out only three batters in 2.2 innings. Sloan Gayan came in relief, finishing the game with four hits and two runs given up. For LSU, the starter Shelby Wickersham, who gave up three runs in the first, was pulled in favor of Ali Kilponen. Once she took over starting in the 2nd, the Wildcats offense could not produce any offense, with Kilponen finishing the game with 1.68 ERA, allowing only three hits, and one run in 6 innings pitched. https://twitter.com/LSUsoftball/status/1386430937785782273?s=20 The Wildcats now visit College Station for the next series against Texas A&M. With only two more series left before the SEC Softball tournament in Tuscaloosa, Kentucky needs to win at least one of these, especially after the skid in April. https://twitter.com/UKsoftball/status/1386434602143678466?s=20
