UK Softball Host No. 21 Auburn in SEC Opener

The Cats host their first SEC series of the season today against No. 21 Auburn. The first pitch of the series at John Cropp Stadium is set for 6:00pm tonight, followed by a 3:00pm start on Saturday, and concludes on Sunday with a 1:00pm start time. The Cats ranked at No. 10 are 27-5 on the season, and 4-2 in SEC play, with losses to Mississippi State and Missouri on the road. The Wildcats have been ranked inside the top 25 of both the NFCA/USA Today Top 25 and the  ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 polls for 25 consecutive weeks, which sets a school record. Auburn has also started the season with a program best start at 29-5-1 and are 4-2 in SEC play. The Tigers are looking for the Cats to be their third straight SEC series win of the season, and second over a ranked opponent. Auburn captured their first two series against SEC foes LSU (who was then ranked 24) and Mississippi State, taking both series 2-1.
- Freshman Kasey Cooper leads the Tigers in hitting with a .454 average.
- Junior outfielder Branndi Melero follows with a .451. - Sophomore infielder Emily Carosone is hitting 3rd best on the season at .402. The top four in the batting order for Auburn has hit for a combined .426, with 27 homeruns and 159 RBI. The Tigers' pitchers have a combined three no-hitters this season, two by sophomore pitcher Marcey Harper (14-0 on the season with a 2.90 ERA), and one by sophomore Lexi Davis (14-5 on the season with a 1.96 ERA). Following the SEC series against Auburn that concludes on Sunday, the Cats will then host Louisville Wednesday, March 2nd at 6:00pm at John Cropp Stadium.
