The Cats reached a program high of fifth in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Softball Poll, just behind Florida, Tennessee, Washington, and Arizona State. What has been an exciting beginning to the season for the team, Rachel Lawson has recorded her 200th career win as head coach for the Cats, making her the winningest head coach in program history. Other exciting news for the team includes Christian Stokes, who leads the SEC in assist with 31. Griffin Joiner also ranks high in the SEC as she is second in batting average, first in slugging percentage, second in on-base percentage, first in total bases, and of course, the slugger ranks first in homeruns in the SEC, at 6. The Cats have 14 homeruns and 12 sacrifice bunts thus far on the season. The Cats defense has also been impressive to open to the season, sitting third in fielding percentage, first in assists, and are now tied for second in fewest errors in the SEC. UK has turned four double plays, which accounts for second most in the SEC, and has only allowed 2 stolen bases, which is the lowest in the SEC. The pitching staff has allowed the third fewest walks, the second fewest doubles, and has the second most strikeouts in the SEC at 19, to begin the 2014 season. The Cats will compete in the FAU Invitational this Friday, Saturday and Sunday as they hope to continue their perfect start and stay undefeated as they end play in Florida on Sunday. They will then host a tournament the following weekend at John Cropp Stadium (2-28-14) starting at 3:00pm against Eastern Kentucky.
