UK Targets and Team USA Take Gold Medal in FIBA U17 World Championship

Team USA continued to dominate in the FIBA U17 World Championship earlier today, blowing out Turkey in the gold medal game, 96-56. This 40-point win actually brought the American's average margin of victory for the entire tournament down to over 44.5 points per game.
We've mentioned multiple times on KSR that UK was watching several different players on the United States' squad during the team's two weeks in Zaragoza, Spain. Immanuel Quickley, Gary Trent Jr., Wendell Carter Jr., Kevin Knox II and Javonte Smart are the current UK targets who donned the stars and stripes in Spain.
Here are some highlights of today's gold medal game.

The most impressive player on the American team was tournament MVP Collin Sexton, who averaged 17 points, 4.2 assists and 4 rebounds over the seven-game tournament. Sexton is rated the No. 27 overall player in the Class of 2017, according to Scout. It will be interesting to see if he jumps up multiple spots when new rankings are released on the various recruiting sites and if he garners attention from more schools, including the Kentucky Wildcats.
UK target, Gary Trent Jr. was the leading scorer for the US in the championship game and the second-leading scorer for the United States overall. He scored 12.7 points per game, while pulling down 3.9 rebounds and swiping 2.3 steals.
Kevin Knox II put up solid numbers as well, 11.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 steals in 17 minutes a game. Wendell Carter Jr. scored 10.1 points and grabbed 7.4 rebounds in his 15 minutes played per game.
The final two UK targets on team USA did not play their best throughout the tournament, but still have bright futures ahead of them for sure. Immanuel Quickley averaged 3.2 points, 3 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game, while Javonte Smart added 5.4 points, 3.4 assists and 3 rebounds to team USA's winning ways.
Winning the gold medal on Independence Day weekend was a perfect ending to a great two weeks for the Americans in Spain. I'm sure those kids feel so much pride wearing the red, white and blue and representing their country against the rest of the world.
