After plenty of blue to open the season for Kentucky football, be prepared for lots of white for the Wildcats when they take on South Carolina inside Williams-Brice Stadium.

The season started with blue helmets and jerseys with white pants vs. Toledo, white helmets and pants with blue jerseys at Ole Miss and white helmets with blue jerseys and pants vs. Eastern Michigan. What will they be bringing with them to Columbia? Nothing but ice, baby.

White helmets, white jerseys, white pants.

Quay’sheed Scott is this week’s model after committing to Kentucky in the 2024 cycle with South Carolina making the late charge in hopes of stealing his signature — a failed attempt by Shane Beamer. Now, he’s the starting nickel for the Wildcats, ready to take on the Gamecocks on the road.

The Wildcats are coming off a bye week, a long-time area of concern for Mark Stoops — he’s just 6-10 overall and 5-9 against SEC competition following a break in the schedule. He said he’s talked to “quite a few of my colleagues and friends around the country, just to get different ideas,” understanding Kentucky’s past struggles in an effort “to try to get better.”

Maybe going with the iced-out look is one of them? It’s worked in the past.

Remember this iconic photo of Stephen Johnson back in 2017? The Cats wore all white in that 23-13 win down in Columbia.

It wasn’t pretty, but Chris Rodriguez ran for 144 yards in a 16-10 victory at WBS back in 2021, too. He did that in the icy whites.

Can the Cats do it again with Sandstorm blaring and making their ears bleed? It’s a big-time road opportunity for Kentucky to go 3-1 on the year and just three wins away from bowl eligibility.

They’ll look good, but will they feel good leaving Columbia? We’ll find out (very) late Saturday evening.
