At least one Kentucky Wildcat is moving on to match play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, and the other still has a shot. Yesterday, senior Laney Frye shot even par to finish with a 2-over par 142 through 36 holes, which is tied for 39th place. This is her third straight cut at the event, which takes place at the Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles this year.

Frye’s Kentucky teammate Jensen Castle had a rough Tuesday, making six bogeys to only two birdies to finish 4-over par 144 through 36 holes. Castle is currently tied for 56th place with ten others and will participate in a 10-for-9 playoff this morning. Castle, the 2021 U.S. Women’s Amateur Champion, has reached match play every summer since 2020. Play just commenced. You can follow live scoring on the USGA’s website and we’ll also bring you updates here on KentuckySportsRadio.com.

Once the playoff concludes, pairings and tee times will be set for match play. The Golf Channel will broadcast parts of the round of 64 from 6-9 p.m. ET. Here is the order of events and TV schedule for the remainder of the championship:

  • Wednesday, Aug. 9 (Round of 64, match play) / Golf Channel (6-9 p.m. ET)
