USA Today: Tayshaun Prince May Force Lineup Shift

by:Jonathan Schuette05/25/13
prince If you were to look solely at the numbers, you would think that Tayshaun Prince has had a typical season by his standards. Despite his per game point totals taking a slight dive, his 2012-13 shooting percentages are up from his career average. Not too mention, his rebounding and assist numbers for the season are right at career levels. Despite this, many are questioning if Tayshaun should still be starting for the Grizzlies in their series against San Antonio. Dan Wolken of USA Today Sports is one of those people. First, there's certainly a valid criticism of Prince's performance in the Western Conference Finals. Prince has averaged just 4 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in the series' two games thus far, leaving much room for questioning. It may be too early to tell if this just a two game slump or an indication of a long-term trend, but there's not much time to decipher as Memphis is in a two game hole against San Antonio.  While things may be getting tight in Memphis, Prince doesn't seem to be overly concerned about his personal state of affairs. "I've never been in a position where I'm worried or concerned about how I'm shooting. I just have to continue to stay confident and when the shots are available, take them." Regardless of being a starter or a contributor off the bench, Prince will be needed in this series as his length provides defense on many portions of the floor.  It isn't set in stone as to what his role will be going forward in the series, but Prince will be used in one way or another.
