Vanderbilt stadium capacity reduced significantly amid construction

The Kentucky Wildcats travel to Nashville to play the Vanderbilt Commodores on September 23. The Big Blue Nation usually takes over Vanderbilt’s stadium — and probably will again this year — but if you’re looking to cheer the Cats on in person, you might want to go ahead and get your ticket.

Capacity at FirstBank Stadium will be reduced from 39,790 to 28,500 this season amid construction. The south and north end zones are completely gone to make way for a new basketball practice facility, student-athlete dining hall, and stadium premium seating options. The upgrades are part of a $300 million investment and are expected to be completed in 2024. Until then, Vanderbilt’s stadium, much like the rest of Nashville, is a construction zone. Fittingly, a temporary video/scoreboard will be suspended from a crane in one of the end zones during games.

Yesterday, the university let the media in to check out the progress. Here are some photos from the Tennessean:

Some additional photos from AP reporter Teresa Walker:

The Commodores host Hawai’i on August 26, and Alabama A&M the following week. They’ll be on the road for the next two weeks, traveling to Wake Forest and UNLV, before coming home to host Kentucky on Sept. 23.

Kentucky vs. Vanderbilt tickets available

If you want to ensure Blue gets into FirstBank Stadium, tickets are available through Vanderbilt’s website (you have to fill out a form) and via resale on Ticketmaster. There are tons of road closures, new walking routes, and entrance changes to pass along for those making the trip, but we’ll wait until closer to kickoff to worry about that. Typically, the visitor’s sections are V and U, which are still intact, but, if years past are any indication, you’ll be near blue wherever you sit.

For more details on the construction, I’ll direct you to Vanderbilt’s website. See you on West End on September 23. Time to get some revenge.
