Veteran official John Cahill retiring
The hardwood just became a little bit safer for John Calipari. Longtime referee John Cahill announced that he is retiring from officiating to become the new supervisor of officials for the new Big East Conference.
Cahill, 60, has been officiating basketball for forty years. The last game he officiated was the National Championship between Louisville and Michigan, which was also his 11th Final Four. Cahill officiated twenty UK games since 2006-2007, including four last season: at Louisville on December 29; at Alabama on January 22; South Carolina on February 5 and Vandy on February 20. If you’ll remember, he gave John Calipari a technical during that Louisville game, and also T’d up Willie Cauley-Stein and Ryan Harrow during the Vandy game.
Happy trails, Cahill. Don’t worry, Doug Shows will pick up your slack.
