Vince Marrow is officially on his way to Louisville, signing a three-year deal to become the Executive Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting for the Cardinals.

He put pen to paper with Kentucky’s bitter in-state rival to make the reported move official, he told ESPN on Thursday. In his first public statement, he said working with Jeff Brohm was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.

“I am incredibly excited to work with Jeff Brohm and the University of Louisville football program!” Marrow said. “Jeff and I have known each other for over 25 years, I have always admired and respected him and the Brohm family. I also love the state of Kentucky, this has become my home. The opportunity to take on this new and exciting role, in the state where I have so many incredible relationships, was something that I couldn’t pass up.”

Marrow also addressed his old friends — and now rivals — at Kentucky, thanking the coaches, administration and fans for their support during his 12 years in Lexington.

“I also want to thank the University of Kentucky, Mark Stoops, the administration and the fans,” he said. “I have made lifelong friendships during my time at UK, and I have every desire to keep those relationships. That is one of the reasons I wanted to stay in this state. My hope is that I left the Kentucky football program in a better position than when we started, I will always be grateful for my time there.”

Now, his goal is to win a national title wearing red instead of blue.

“Ultimately, my goal at the University of Louisville is to win a national championship,” Marrow told ESPN. “I am very confident that we can accomplish that goal and I can’t wait to get started!”

Marrow’s move to Louisville was reported back on June 9, one that would allow him to “oversee roster management, recruiting and the NCAA transfer portal,” ESPN shared at the time.

The 56-year-old joined Mark Stoops’ staff as the tight ends coach, recruiting coordinator and NFL liaison in December 2012. He was then elevated to associate head coach in February 2019.

Now, he’s a Cardinal.

UPDATE: Louisville Makes it Officially, Official

The University of Louisville released a statement confirming Thamel’s report. It included the aforementioned quote from Marrow and this from Jeff Brohm:

“I am excited to have Vince Marrow join our staff,” Brohm said. “He exemplifies the highest standards of collegiate coaching and recruiting success. His extensive experience, commitment to player development, and exceptional ability to connect with young athletes have made him one of the best in the business. Vince will be a huge asset to the staff.”
