Wan'Dale Robinson Expects a Larger Role with a New Quarterback

Wan’Dale Robinson had the greatest season ever by a Kentucky Wildcat. He was rewarded by being sent to the NFL to catch passes from Daniel Jones. It was not exactly an ideal scenario.
To make matters worse, Robinson’s rookie season ended prematurely with an ACL injury. Entering his fourth season, he is getting a fresh start.
The G-Men made a few offseason moves, most notably bringing in Russell Wilson to be the starting quarterback. They also drafted Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss, allowing the rookie to find his place with the 10-time Pro Bowler taking the reins at the start.
The early returns have been positive. Even though Wilson left Pittsburgh fans wanting more, Robinson appreciates the enthusiasm Wilson is bringing into the Giants’ locker room at OTAs.
“At the end of the day, that’s what you want. You don’t want your quarterback to be lackadaisical or anything like that. You want your quarterback to be high-strung, really motivated, detailed, and that’s exactly what he is,” Robinson said a few days ago.
He added, “It’s been nice. He’s a guy who’s been in this league a long time. He tells you exactly what he wants out there, running routes, and the spots he needs you to be in, so it’s been really nice.”
A few Giants wide receivers made an offseason trip to Atlanta to get better acquainted with their new quarterback. They could feel a significant difference when running routes with Wilson.

“The way he just commanded, even just that little session of just the three of us, me, Slay, and Theo. It was just kinda like, we haven’t had a quarterback that’s just gonna command everything, and you know exactly what you want. So, he’s been great,” Robinson said.
It’s clear Wilson is past his prime. He’s not the mobile quarterback who made plays with his legs en route to a Super Bowl. However, his arm can still put the ball in tight spaces.
“That deep ball drops right in the bucket,” said the former Kentucky Wildcat. “Whenever he’s throwing the shorter routes and stuff like that, it comes in like a pillow. It’s really easy to catch.”
That deep ball may be more a part of Robinson’s game this fall. The slot has been asked to primarily catch passes near the line of scrimmage or in intermediate routes. He expects a larger role ahead of his fourth season.
“I definitely think I’ll be moved around more. I’ll be outside a little bit more, get some deeper shots down the field. At the end of the day, I just gotta get open and be a valuable target for our quarterback.”
