Wan’Dale Robinson was playing the best football of his rookie season when the former Kentucky Wildcat suffered an injury that sidelined him for the year. The New York Giants are now optimistic he will be ready to pick up right where he left off this fall.

The Frankfort native was targeted 31 times as a rookie. Thirteen of those targets were in one game against the Detroit Lions. He had nine receptions for 100 yards when his progress came to an abrupt halt.

Robinson suffered a torn ACL in the Giants’ 31-18 loss to the Lions. The injury occurred in late November, leading many to wonder if he would be available at all in 2023. The former second round pick is currently on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, but that could change soon.

This week New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen said on the Zach Gelb Show that Wan’Dale Robinson could “probably [be] returning to practice here in a week or so.” The Giants’ GM added: “We’re excited about him [Robinson] and [tight end] Daniel Bellinger in Year 2.”

Despite the injuries to Robinson and seemingly every other New York receiver, the Giants earned a playoff berth as a wild card in Brian Daboll’s first season. They even picked up a postseason win, upsetting the Vikings in Minnesota. Robinson’s quick recovery could inject even more optimism into a fanbase that has high expectations under Daboll.

Marquan McCall is a Starter

Josh Ali isn’t the only former Wildcat moving up NFL Depth Charts. Marquan McCall was undrafted in 2022, but Bully did not back down. Signed by the Carolina Panthers, he played his way onto the 53-man roster and carved out a role at nose guard in the rotation. McCall appeared in 16 games and totaled 15 tackles, 2.0 for loss.

The Panthers are asking for more from Bully McCall this fall. On the first Carolina depth chart McCall is the first-team defensive tackle. The 6-foot-3, 345-pounder from Detroit has made a splash during the summer and the KSR crew loves to see it.
