We received some good news from Mark Pope during his Thursday press conference.

The Kentucky men’s basketball head coach provided a positive update on starting point guard Jaland Lowe. Although Lowe, who injured his shoulder during last Friday’s Blue-White Game, is not expected to suit up against top-ranked Purdue in Friday’s exhibition at Rupp Arena, it doesn’t sound like he’s too far out from a return.

“Doing good. (Lowe’s) recovery has been epically fast. He’s feeling really good,” Pope said. “He was back shooting yesterday, full speed. We’ll probably keep him out of live contact for at least another week, just to make sure. He’s a massively important part of this season so we want to make sure he’s healthy.”

We probably shouldn’t expect to see Lowe play in either exhibition against Purdue or Georgetown, but stepping on the floor for the season-opener on Nov. 4 certainly feels on the table. But Pope had plenty more to say during his 23-minute press conference, talking about how they’ll replace Lowe in the exhibitions, what challenges Purdue poses, G League players making the move to college basketball, and much, much more.

You can hear everything Pope had to say in the video below. Kentucky will host Purdue on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
