Kroger Field opened its doors to Kentucky football fans for a 90-minute exhibition at the 2024 edition of the Blue-White Spring Game. Instead of a full-tackle scrimmage, the BBN got to see an hour of “thud” as the Cats went back and forth in 11-on-11 action.

Mark Stoops was pleased with his team’s performance. The grind of spring practice can be monotonous, but the Cats came ready to play.

“We get these guys up every day around 6 am, 6:30, and they’re in their grinding, so it gets old,” Stoops said. “You know, it gets old on them beating up on each other. I thought they pushed through this week very well.”

The Kentucky head coach said Brock Vandagriff had a tremendous spring. Kentucky’s new quarterback described his first performance in a Wildcat uniform as “solid.”

“Obviously, there’s still room for improvement but overall pleased,” said Vandagriff. “You don’t want to have a bad game because then you think about all summer, all fall. But I think it was pretty solid.”

After going through the grind, the Cats have a few more sessions together before getting an opportunity to exhale and spend some time with their families in the month of May. Mark Stoops still has some more work to do before he takes some time off. The transfer portal opens on Tuesday. There will likely be a few departures, and maybe a few more roster additions, before the team reconvenes in June. “We’ll see,” said Stoops.
