The Class 6A quarterfinals brought us an instant classic in Lexington.

On Friday night at The Farm, No. 9 Ryle stunned No. 10 Frederick Douglass in overtime by electing for the game-winning two-point conversion, which quarterback Nathan Verax ran into the end zone to give the Raiders a 28-27 win over the Broncos. Frederick Douglass struck first in the extra period with a touchdown and a point after attempt, but Ryle head coach Mike Engler went for the thrilling walk-off win. The Raiders pulled off the dub despite two-way standout/Indiana commit Jacob Savage missing the second half due to injury.

Ryle moves on to the 6A semifinals on Friday against No. 3 South Warren. It will be a road game for the Raiders, which made it to the 6A championship game a year ago at Kroger Field before falling to Trinity. Meanwhile, Frederick Douglass’ season comes to an end with a final record of 8-5.

The Raiders’ win over Douglass was one you had to see to believe. But if you weren’t able to witness it all in person, KSR’s Sterling Hohman has you covered with another excellent highlight video that you can dive into below. Playoff football sure is fun.
