The braids didn’t make an appearance, but the Big Blue Nation still got a glimpse inside the quarantine life of Tyler Herro.

With his Kentucky jersey framed in the background, the former Wildcat guard and rookie on the Miami Heat shared 15 minutes of his time over on the Miami Heat’s Instragam page to discuss his trending hairdo, words of advice he received from John Calipari before going to the NBA, and why he wears the No. 14.

….sans quarantine braids

Unfortunately, Herro wasn’t rocking the braids for the quick interview. He disclosed that after a while, they start to hurt the back of his head, so he looked more like the Herro of two weeks ago. He actually said this wasn’t the first time he’s gotten braids, either, as he did so back during his rookie year, although he never sported them during a game.

Considering most of the questions came from Miami Heat fans (and nearly every comment during the live stream was related to Herro’s relationship status with Instagram model Katya Elise Henry), Kentucky only came up directly one time, but it was a good one. Herro was asked what the best advice he ever received from his former college coach was.

Save your money!” Herro said Calipari told him before jumping to the pros. “But no, Coach Cal told me the first thing to buy should be a watch because you can sell those back and they appreciate over time. He definitely told me to save my money. Coach Cal taught me everything since college on how to be a pro… Coach Cal was a big step in my life.”

The rest of the interview contains plenty of other Herro nuggets that you might not have already known. For example, he talks about how he chose to wear No. 14 back when he was a freshman in high school because he happened to be 14 years old at the time. Herro also discussed his “welcome to the NBA” moment, why Kobe Bryant is his idol, and how meeting with Heat president Pat Riley was a “dream come true”.
