Wednesday Morning Notes

by: Thomas Beisner07/16/08
Happy 45th, Phoebe Cates.  No one ever made red look so good... Matt is having a little internet trouble right now so it looks like you're stuck with me for the morning.  Don't worry, I won't make you cook breakfast before you catch a cab home.  - The biggest news of the day had to come from Frisco, Texas QB Ryan Mossakowski and his narrowing of schools down to a foursome that included the Cats.  Mossakowski is ranked as the 5th best Pro Style QB by Rivals and is a 4-star player.  If you judge only the fact that Kentucky finds itself in a final group with Auburn, Nick $aban and Texas A&M, you have to have a lot of pride in how far Kentucky's recruiting has come in the past few years.  And if that still doesn't do it for you, then realize that the teams he eliminated this week included Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Oregon, Clemson and Louisville.  Good times.  If UK can land a commitment from Mossakowski or Carmel, Ind. QB Morgan Newton, then Joker Phillips' could guarantee himself quite the potent offense his first year on the job (whenever that may be). I had a voicemail tonight from Ryan's coach so we should have an interview up later tonight or Thursday with some more info.  I really just want to know if he intentionally narrowed his list to the four schools with the hottest girls or if that was a coincidence.  I know you were wondering too.  - Check out BTI's post below about the Pitino/Caracter saga.  I have no energy left for that.  These two break up and get back together more than Ross and Rachel on Friends and they're a thousand times more irritating.  And neither one of them has a nice tail.  But other than that, they're pretty much the same.   - The Lakers summer league team lost tonight, running their record to 1-2.  This time it was to the 76ers, 81-73.  Fret not though, UK fan, because Joe Crawford had 16 points on 6-13 shooting, including a robust and perfect 1-1 from three point range.  Crawford added 3 boards, an assist and a steal for LA, bringing his summer league averages to 11.3 ppg, 2 rpg, 1 apg and 1 spg.  He still leads the summer league in looking like Kanye West though.  - Great All-Star game tonight for MLB.  Aaron Cook just saved the NL and we're moving into the 11th.  Cross your fingers and hope they find a way for Griffey to take the field and hit a walk-off home run.  Wait, Griffey didn't make it?  The NL is the road team?  Oh well, just hope it doesnt end in a tie again... Check back throughout the day for more greatness including lots of stuff about University of Kentucky football and basketball recruiting.  It will likely also be presented in the most ridiculous manner possible too....possibly including more player profiles, a Need-To-Know Wednesday and the latest "Where in the World is Billy Clyde Gillispie", which may or may not have been officially endorsed this week by the coach.  I'll miss you until then.
