Welcome to the NBA Playoffs, Marquis Teague

by:Ally Tucker05/05/13
Take a look at the Chicago Bulls' box scores from the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Riddled with injuries and plagued by illness, the Bulls somehow managed to put enough pieces together to close out the 7-game series against the Brooklyn Nets. The Bulls have navigated through the entire season without star point guard Derrick Rose, but it has been the other smaller injuries since the start of the playoffs that have provided the latest challenge. Last night, a former Kentucky Wildcat got his chance to contribute to the Bulls' effort. Marquis Teague, a reserve point guard for the Bulls who has seen limited action throughout most of the season, played in a series-high 14 minutes last night. When asked about his head coach's decision to give him an expanded role last night, Teague replied, "I wasn't surprised. Thins goes with whatever is working. He felt I was competing at a high level."  Teague finished with 4 points on 2-5 shooting from the field, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 block. Teague could see more minutes in the future as the Bulls take on the league favorite Miami Heat in the next best of 7 series. Starting point guard Kirk Hinrich is still questionable for Game 1 against the Heat. "Time will tell," Hinrich said. "I've been doing everything I can but it (calf) isn't ready yet."
