"We're Ready": BJ Boston and his future teammates are excited for the challenge ahead

(Editor's note: To read KSR's full profile on incoming recruit BJ Boston, click here) It's now been two full months since the 2019-2020 college basketball season came to an end, with everyone's full attention now turned to the 2020-2021 campaign. And with Olivier Sarr's commitment last week we are starting to get a real feel for what that 2020-2021 team might look like for the Kentucky Wildcats. Once again it will be loaded. And the staff might not even be done adding pieces at this point. Still, there might not be a single more important piece to next year's roster than BJ Boston. The big wing who is originally from Georgia, spent last year in California and has been compared by many to All-Star Brandon Ingram. And he will come to Lexington as the highest rated recruit to sign with Kentucky since Skal Labissiere in the 2015-2016 season and will add a much-needed scoring punch on the wing for the Wildcats. And on Monday, he joined KSR's Aaron Torres Sports Podcast, where he discussed his present in California and future Lexington. You can either download the podcast here (the interview starts around the 50-minute mark) or listen to the interview via video below, but Boston seems excited to get to Lexington. Like everyone else the pandemic has slowed life down, but not his fire to improve as a basketball player. "I'm just working on my game," Boston said when asked how he is passing the time. "I'm focusing on body, trying to eat right, lifting, doing a lot of jump rope, trying to get shots up. We've got a hoop in the front yard, I just found a gym to shoot at so I've been working out there when I'm allowed." From there, Boston shared some insight into last season. He explained why his family moved from the Atlanta area to Los Angeles, and what it was like to play for the circus that was Sierra Canyon High School this year. He also described what it was like to play in front of NBA icons LeBron James and Dwyane Wade each and every night (as you've probably heard, their sons were on the team!), and the advice that each gave the team throughout the season. "LeBron told us that if we want to win a championship, we've got to have each other's backs," Boston said. "And don't worry about the outside noise." Sounds like good advice, and advice that he can certainly use in Lexington next season. Speaking of which, Boston couldn't hold back the excitement about beginning his college career. While this off-season has been full of discussions of players pursuing the new G-League option, Boston said he is "100 percent committed to Kentucky" for the fall. He also said that he and the 2020-2021 roster have put together a text chain throughout the off-season to get to know each other, and that the text chain even includes the three new transfers who've entered the program in the last few weeks (Sarr, Davion Mintz and Jacob Toppin). In the end, the 2021 Wildcats know about the noise that they will be too young or too inexperienced. They've heard it, and are embracing the opportunity ahead. "We're just ready," Boston said. "Everybody is doubting us because we're young. But we're ready." To download the interview with Boston, click here.
