What in the Les Miles is Going On at Kansas?

The Les Miles era at Kansas was short-lived and laced with controversy. Even a few months after his departure, there are more allegations coming out about his two seasons in Lawrence. This time, it includes hush money — $50,000 in fact.

Former EKU fullback and Jayhawk walk on Caperton Humphrey alleged that Kansas paid him $50,000 in benefits to sign a non-disparagement agreement and leave the program in 2019 after reporting four unnamed defensive players for allegedly threatening violence against him and his family as well as selling marijuana, according to The Kansas City Star.

Humphrey alleged he had some difficulties with four defensive starters that lived in the same apartment. In the article, Humphrey believed one of the players had loosened the lug nuts on his car after an altercation, threatened him and his family, and broke into his apartment before Humphrey decided to leave Kansas.

Throughout all of this, Humphrey had reported his troubles to people within the Kansas football staff. Les Miles’ alleged suggestion? To handle their difference on the football field with full-contact drills. This, of course, didn’t help anything. As the situation continued to escalate, compliance director and apparent family friend of the Humphries, David Reed, offered an agreement for Caperton to leave the program as Miles continued to play the four defensive players.

Humphrey’s family is looking to pursue legal action against former Kansas head coach Les Miles, former athletic director Jeff Long, compliance director David Reed and KU Athletics after Caperton developed anger issues and depression following the school’s actions.
