There is no patience for long rebuilds in college football any long. In the NIL and transfer portal era, rosters can be flipped just about overnight. Winning quickly is expected everywhere. New head football coach Will Stein let Kentucky fans everywhere know that there was one big reason he took this job.

The 36-year-old wants to win. He wants to win quickly.

“The vision’s really simple. It’s to win. It’s to win. I didn’t come here to be average. I didn’t come here to be mediocre. I came here to win and win championships. I’ve won at every single level that I’ve been at,” Stein explained. “High school, college, and now the goal is to win here and not win five years down the road, 10 years down the road. To do it now.”

The new head coach thanked Mark Stoops for his 13-year run in Lexington and said that Kentucky football and the Big Blue Nation would not be where they currently are without the winningest coach in program history. But now is about trying to move the program forward. How will Stein do that? Well, he shares that philosophy with Stoops: it’s about work.

“The way that you do that is you work. You work right? Success is not free. Rent is due every damn day that we’re here,” Stein said. “And we’re gonna work to get that done to make Big Blue Nation proud, and make our players proud, and to do it the right way.”

Will Stein will quickly shift into staff building mode before the College Playoff arrives for Oregon next weekend which will be quickly followed by roster-building season. Kentucky’s new head coach claims that there will be an elite coaching staff in Lexington because “everybody wants to work with Will Stein”. All of this will be done in an effort to allow Kentucky football to compete at the highest level.

Kentucky’s new head coach is ready to win — and he’s ready to win big.

“There’s no reason why we can’t be successful here. Zero. The excuses are done. It’s time to get to work,” said Stein.
