Willie Rodriguez will not have to travel very far when he moves out to college. The Northern Kentucky kid and Covington Catholic product announced on Kentucky Sports Radio Friday morning that he will be a Wildcat.

A three-star prospect from Taylor Mill, at one time Kentucky did not look like it would be the choice for the 6-foot-4 tight end. Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Purdue and a few other SEC schools were cranking up the pressure when Liam Coen and Vince Marrow offered him a scholarship. After officially visiting Lexington in early June, he was hooked.

“I really felt at home on my official visit with coaching staff and with the players,” he told KSR. “I really bonded with the team and seeing how they bonded with their coaches, they were comfortable. It made it feel like home for me.”

Vince Marrow, his new position coach in Lexington, served as the lead recruiter. The weekend on campus with future Cats, like Cutter Boley, and his family’s connection to the team also played a role in his decision.

“(Vince) took me around a lot and sent me a lot of love from the UK fans and everything on the official. That was definitely a huge part of it.” Willie Rodriguez added: “My cousin Patrick Henschen played there for a while so I went to a few games. I definitely have grown up around (Kentucky football).”

Brian Robinson is a Top Priority for Kentucky Commits

Each time a new Wildcat pledges his allegiance to the Big Blue Nation on Kentucky Sports Radio, Matt Jones asks who could be the next to join Kentucky’s 2024 recruiting class. One name stands above the rest, Brian Robinson.

A four-star EDGE prospect, Robinson is the No. 142 player in America according to the On3 Industry Ranking, and the nation’s sixth-ranked pass rusher. A Youngstown native, he’s taken trips to Michigan and Penn State, but the Wildcats are the leaders in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). “B-Rob” officially visited Kentucky with Willie Rodriguez, who wants him in the fold as soon as possible.

“I think we definitely have a strong chance and I’m gonna be all in on them and recruiting everybody to this class,” Rodriguez told Matt Jones. “I want to have the best players around me, the best team as possible we can get.”
