As much as we love Kentucky football, the first few days of fall camp can be boring. It’s a time for teaching and learning the playbook. That’s not sexy. Fortunately, team periods provided some pop for folks who attended Kentucky Football Fan Day.

Quarterback Zach Calzada had plenty of time to throw the football. He rolled left and it created an opening downfield for BBN’s favorite position, the tight end. Willie Rodriguez had a few flashes of greatness as a true freshman. We saw another from the Cov Cath product on Saturday.

The big fella showed he’s much more than just a big body. Rodriguez showed athleticism by climbing the ladder and making a contested catch over veteran safety Jordan Lovett.

That wasn’t the only entertaining moment from the Kentucky Football Fan Day practice.

Hardley Gilmore made a couple of nice grabs. True freshman DJ Miller had a few early miscues, but the lengthy wide receiver received some redemption during the two-minute drill with a big play to put the offense on the edge of the goal line.

There’s plenty of room for growth between now and the season opener against Toledo, but it’s nice to see the Kentucky Wildcats make some plays in the opening days of fall camp.
