WKU transfer Zion Harmon signs with Bethune-Cookman
Zion Harmon, a former Marshall County High School star who later signed with Western Kentucky University, will transfer to Bethune-Cookman.
Considered a four-star prospect and top 70 overall recruit from the class of 2021, per the On3 Consensus, Harmon began his freshman year at WKU for the 2021-22 season. However, he did not play a game for the Hilltoppers and it was announced in January that he was leaving the program due to personal reasons. Harmon would officially put his name in the transfer portal on August 11.
“Zion is truly a player that has all levels of basketball covered,” Bethune-Cookman head coach Reggie Theus said in the team’s press release. “He’s a big-time scorer. He sees the floor. He puts pressure on the defense. His accolades speak for themselves.”
Once considered a top 10 overall player from the ’21 class, Harmon’s basketball career has seen him land with several different schools. He began at Antioch (TN) Lighthouse Christian in seventh grade, won a state title at Bowling Green in eighth grade, moved to Adair County as a freshman in high school, then transferred to Marshall County for his final three seasons, although he was ruled ineligible by the KHSAA for his sophomore year.
During his senior season at Marshall County, Harmon averaged 22.3 points per game as he earned all-state honors for the fourth time. As a junior, he posted averages of 25.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. He is one of just 26 Kentucky high schoolers to score 1,000 points in a single season and also helped lead Team USA to a gold medal at the FIBA Americas U16 Championships.
Harmon is the highest-ranked commit to choose Bethune-Cookman in the history of the program.
