Rapid Reaction Kentuck Vs Louisville

Kentucky is not expected to lose many defensive starters off of the 2023 team. However, players on the roster still need to make final decisions about their future. On Sunday, the Wildcats received some good news for next year’s secondary.

Zion Childress posted on X that he will be returning to Kentucky for his super senior season in 2024.

The former Texas State transfer appeared in all 13 games for Kentucky in 2022 earning one starting assignment. Childress finished his first season in the Power Five with 34 tackles, two tackles for loss, and and two pass breakups playing 347 defensive snaps. In the offseason, Childress earned a full-time starting spot and was named a team captain.

The true senior hit a rough stretch in the middle of the season, but close the season strong over the last month. Entering bowl season, Zion Childress has logged 51 tackles, two tackles for loss, and two pass breakups. Childress has played 706 defensive snaps this season and played one of his best games of the year against Louisville.

Zion Childress will re-join Jordan Lovett at safety while Kentucky will need to find a replacement for Andru Phillips at cornerback. That cornerback replacement might have been on campus this weekend. Kentucky is currently slated to have 15 defensive backs on the roster in 2024.
