July 4th has brought some early fireworks for the LSU Football program with a commitment from one of America’s best prospects.

On Friday morning, Mississippi 4-star offensive tackle Bryson Cooley made a surprise reveal with his decision to go public with his commitment to LSU.

“The development shows all around at LSU,” Cooley told The Bengal Tiger staff ahead of his reveal. “And, the relationship they have is desirable!”

Cooley is LSU’s 13th verbal commitment for the current 2026 class, pushing the Tigers back into the Top 5 of the 2026 Industry Football Team Recruiting Rankings on a day when prospects around the country are announcing their college commitments.

LSU beat out Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and more for the 6-foot-6, 315-pounder out of West Jones High in Laurel, Miss.

The addition is LSU’s third recruit to join the class out of Mississippi, with Cooley joining fellow 4-star offensive tackle Emanuel Tucker and 5-star wide receiver Tristen Keys as commitments to the Tigers.

“LSU is honestly at the top of the list,” Cooley told Rivals recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman following his official visit to Baton Rouge in June. Cooley made a final official visit to Mississippi State to wrap up the month of June, but the press from the Bulldogs – and other colleges in the mix – wasn’t enough to lure him away from a commitment to LSU.

The Tigers have been red-hot in not just the Magnolia State, but also the Pine Belt region. Two cycles ago, LSU landed the 7A Defensive Player of the Year in Oak Grove cornerback PJ Woodland, then followed up the addition by signing another Top 10 player in the state in Laurel 4-star offensive lineman Tyler Miller this past December.

Now, with the addition of Cooley, LSU’s added another Laurel prospect. Toss in Keys out of Hattiesburg High, and the work done by the on-field staff and LSU Director of Recruiting – a Hattiesburg native – has paid off.

And, LSU might done be done in Mississippi just yet.

With Cooley on board, the Tigers have begun to pick up even more steam in the race for Mississippi’s Jase Mathews, who is ranked by On3 as a Top 3 wide receiver in the country for the 2026 class.
