LSU is making a big move along the offensive line ahead of Saturday’s matchup against Texas A&M. What’s the change? Carius Curne will start at left tackle in place of the injured Tyree Adams, The Advocate’s Koki Riley reported from Brian Kelly’s weekly radio show.

DJ Chester had been the perceived “next man up” behind Adams at right tackle, as KElly said as much on Monday. However, it’s the true freshman Curne who will get the nod instead. Curne was thrown into the fire last month, starting in place of Weston Davis in the loss to Ole Miss. Davis had injured himself in pre-game warmups, forcing Curne into action less than 25 minutes before kickoff.

Tyree Adams Status

Riley also reported that during Kelly’s radio show that Adams underwent tightrope ankle surgery this past week. His status for the remainder of the season is unknown.

Adams entered 2025 as the de facto starter at the left tackle spot. This season has been a bit up and down for the Louisiana-native, posting an overall PFF Grade of 59.5. Adams has registered a 53.7 run blocking grade and a 63.1 pass blocking grade so far this season.

Who is Carius Curne?

Media and fans have been pleading for Curne to get a shot, and here it comes. The freshman has played in three games this year, totaling 89 snaps. The game against Ole Miss is his biggest data point this year, as he registered 62 snaps. In that game, Curne posted an overall PFF grade of 63.9. His run-blocking grade was 52.2, while he posted an impressive 80.3 grade in pass blocking. Those snaps were taken at right tackle.

What to expect?

Curne has yet to play left tackle at all this year, which poses an entirely new challenge to protect LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and his blindside. It’s a tall task regardless of how highly touted Curne is, especially given Teas A&M’s pass rush.

Last week, the Aggies’ pass rush pressured Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green on 47% of his snaps, registering four sacks. The expectation is that Mike Elko and the defensive staff will target both Davis and Curne often to try to overwhelm LSU’s offensive line.
