Brian Kelly's Thursday update on Moore, Green ahead of LSU vs. Florida

On Thursday night, Brian Kelly gave the final updates on two key starters before LSU vs. Florida. Coming out of the game last week, LSU was banged up, with injuries to tight end Trey’Dez Green and center Braelin Moore all notably were sidelined during the game and we waited until official word on their status Wednesday night.

LSU listed starting offensive lineman Braelin Moore and tight end Trey’Dez Green as questionable on the initial Florida injury report on Wednesday night. Moore sustained a high ankle sprain on his left leg against Louisiana Tech, while Green went down with an injury in the fourth quarter and was seen on the sidelines with crutches and a knee brace.

On Thursday, Kelly said Moore took all of the first team reps and was good to go against Florida. He’s progressed well this week and is viewed as a critical member of the LSU offensive line in the matchup against the Gators.

It’s an encouraging development since Sunday, when Moore was viewed as questionable at best. If he does play this weekend, the Southeast Louisiana game next week could provide some time for Moore to get fully healthy before the bulk of SEC play.

On the first snap of Saturday’s Louisiana Tech game, the Virginia Tech transfer was rolled on during a run play and went down to the ground. He later returned to the sidelines and took some warm-up snaps in the second quarter, but never returned to the game. After halftime, Moore had changed into street clothes and was wearing a walking boot.

“We did not get the sense he got a high ankle sprain or that he would need a tight rope procedure, and he was going to be out for four weeks,” Kelly said Monday. “He’s going to be day-to-day and see how he feels. He felt better today, so we’re going to list him as questionable, and that could change to probable as we go through the week. We’ll see how that progresses.”

Now, it appears Moore could be able to give it a go against Florida this weekend if everything breaks right. DJ Chester is the backup center, and while he has experience, Moore was the SEC offensive lineman of the week in LSU’s week 1 win over Clemson and his presence is important for this unit.

For Green, Kelly said he will be a gametime decision and remains questionable. Per Pete Nakos, one source circled the Ole Miss game near the end of the month as a hard return date. Green has two catches for 17 yards and a touchdown in two games. With the expectation that Green could miss this weekend against Florida, expect Bauer Sharp and Donovan Green to play larger roles.

Green left the game on Saturday and returned on crutches with a brace on. He had a knee injury, but the MRI resutls came back positive that it was not a season-ending injury.

If Green is sidelined, Bauer Sharp has much more on his shoulders and should be an every down player for LSU in this game. The blocking and receiving ability gives the Tigers some versatility, but the receivers will have to step up in Green’s absence, particularly in the redzone.

WR Destyn Hill – Questionable

Hill was injured on the first drive of the season with a hand injury and is expected to miss a few more weeks, per Brian Kelly.
