Injury Update: LSU starter injured on first play of Week 2 game

The LSU Football team was slow out of the gates in the home opener, but a bigger worry became the health of a key transfer.
Virginia Tech transfer Braelin Moore won LSU’s starting center job, a position the Tigers returned the 2024 starter at in DJ Chester, who moved into a competition at left guard in fall camp.
Moore played well enough in the Week 1 road win over No. 4 Clemson to be named the Southeastern Conference’s Offensive Lineman of the Week.
In Week 2’s matchup with Louisiana Tech, Moore had his leg rolled on during a rush by Caden Durham on the first snap of the game.
Moore appeared to be in pain on the field, but ultimately walked off on his own power. After being directed to the LSU injury tent, Moore left the sidelines for the locker room with the program’s training staff.
Chester, who started for LSU at center a year ago, stepped in as Moore’s replacement.
On the second LSU drive on offense, starting right tackle Weston Davis went to the ground with a Louisiana Tech defensive player, and both stayed on the ground after the whistle until the training staffs came to the field.
Fortunately, Davis returned to his position at right tackle on the next drive.
LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was intercepted on the first drive of the game, and the second drive on offense resulted in a 51-yard field goal missed by kicker Damian Ramos.

The score was still tied at 0-0 when LSU took the field again with less than six minutes left in the first quarter, but with the return of Davis and some key plays from the wide receivers, the Tigers drove 98 yards and scored the game’s first points on a touchdown pass from Nussmeier to Oklahoma transfer wide receiver Nic Anderson.
Ahead of the following drive, LSU’s radio broadcast said Moore would be out the remainder of the first half, then evaluated further from there.
Moments later, Moore returned to the sideline and was spotted warming up with a helmet on, though Chester took the field again on LSU’s fourth drive on offense.
When LSU took the field leading just 10-0 at halftime, Moore returned to the sidelines again, this time without his pads and jersey, but with a walking boot. LSU Radio’s Gordy Rush said Moore would not return to the game, but he did not specify the severity of the injury.
Stay tuned to The Bengal Tiger for the latest on Moore’s status moving forward.
