Former LSU star quarterback and Heisman winner Jayden Daniels suffered a brutal injury to his left arm on Sunday night as he awkwardly fell and tried to brace himself while being tackled. Trailing 38-7, Daniels was still in with less than eight minutes remaining and tried making a play with his legs to extend the play.

Daniels had his arm immediately immobilized by the medical training staff. He managed to walk off the field with assistance and did not get carted off. It was a sad sight for those in attendance as his teammates gathered around him and wished him the best as they finished the game.

The beacon of hope for the Commanders throughout this season, Daniels’ status is doubtful moving forward and Adam Schefter of ESPN breaks down the situation.

“Jayden Daniels dislocated his elbow,” Adam Schefter said. “He’s going to have an MRI today to confirm that diagnosis, which I think everybody saw what happened. He’s going to be out indefinitely. Think about where the Commanders are in their season and think about how much Jayden Daniels means to that franchise, and think about the history of this franchise. I would venture to tell you right now there’s a realistic chance Jayden Daniels will not play again this season.”

Daniels would finish that loss to Seattle, completing 16 of 22 passes for 153 yards and an interception. He also had 51 rushing yards and one touchdown on the ground. If this is the end of his season, it would be an extremely disappointing sophomore season after being named Offensive Rookie of the Year a season ago. He’s played in six games, completing 62.5 percent of his passes for 1,184 yards and eight touchdowns. Daniels also carried the ball for 262 yards and two touchdowns.

“Maybe he’s ready to come back later on,” Schefter said. “But that would assume that this team is capable of stringing together enough wins, keeping it alive until he can get healthy, whenever that may be. That’s even if he can come back, but I think there’s a real chance that we’ve seen the last of Jayden Daniels with a memory that will hang over this team, this season for what happened in that particular situation. Everybody will talk about it. It will be assessed, especially considering the history of the franchise, but that was as unfortunate a play as you could possibly imagine. The game was over. It was out of hand. People were asleep and, all of a sudden, this enormously significant play unfolds that’s going to have huge ramifications.”

With the loss to Seattle, Washington has fallen to 3-6 on the season. They’re now trailing both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys within the division. With Marcus Mariota now taking over at quarterback for the foreseeable future, it’s an uphill battle to get back to the playoffs.
