Live Updates: 2022 LSU Spring Game

On Saturday, the annual LSU Spring Game kicked off inside Tiger Stadium, where Brian Kelly gets a chance to show the fruits of the team’s spring labor on SEC Network+. Follow the live updates on The Bengal Tiger inside on the message board HERE and get key play updates in this blog.

Drive 1: Jayden Daniels got the start and scampered for a 8-yard run to lead things off, but he was sacked by Maason Smith the next play and the drive fizzled with another sack.

Drive 2: Garrett Nussmeier took the second team snaps in the LSU Spring Game. He got help from John Emery’s nice run to start before Kyren Lacy made a big play to move the offense across the field. The drive stalled thanks to big plays by Desmond Little, which led to a 48-yard field goal from Ezekeal Mata.

Drive 3: Myles Brennan took over and hit Kole Taylor with a quick pop. The defense forced a three-and-out as Greg Penn made a big hit on Josh Williams.

Drive 4: Walker Howard took over and hit Chris Hilton with a pass then picked up the first down with his legs. Emery had another nice run up the middle for a first down. Bryce Langston got a sack of Howard on the next play.

Nussmeier leads first TD drive of LSU Spring Game

Drive 5: Tre Bradford with a catch and run for 21 yards. Nussmeier went deep to Jaray Jenkins and Jenkins just couldn’t reel it in. Maason Smith continued to have a huge Spring Game, knocking down a pass at the line of scrimmage to force the punt. Nussmeier found Chris Hilton for a first down on a 4th down conversion. Armoni Goodwin broke free late in the drive, capping the 74-yard drive with a 10-yard touchdown run.

Drive 6: Jayden Daniels over threw Kyren Lacy then tucked it and picked up four yards on a designed run. Daniels missed Lacy on 3rd down, leading to a punt.

Drive 7: Myles Brennan couldn’t complete a pass to Brian Thomas. Goodwin continued his strong LSU Spring Game with a nice run to cap the first quarter. Brennan was sacked by BJ Ojulari to end the drive.

Drive 8: Jack Bech took a fly sweep for a first down to lead off Brennan’s second straight drive at the helm. Fitzgerald West sent the snap over Brennan’s head, leading to a turnover.

Drive 9: Daniels dropped in a dime to Brian Thomas that was hauled in to give the offense a first and goal. Daniels pulled it on the zone read to score his first touchdown since transferring into the program.

Goodwin continues strong game

Drive 10: After Xavier Carter batted a ball, Brennan hit Jack Bech on a rollout. Brennan dropped it off to Goodwin, who reeled off a 23-yard pickup. Brennan took a shot toward Lacy, but Lacy couldn’t corral the deep ball. On 3rd and 4, Noah Nash caught a pass from Brennan to pick up a first down. Goodwin showed his slipperyness again to pick up another first down on a strong run. After Brennan over threw Lacy, Williams punched it in to cap the long scoring drive.

Drive 11: Daniels was back in at quarterback and ran for a gain of 7. On 3rd and 3, Tre Bradford was stopped short of the line to gain, but LSU left the offense out there. Daniels went deep to Thomas, but it was out of bounds.

Drive 12: Goodwin reeled off back-to-back strong runs for a 1st down to start Nussmeier’s latest drive. Nussmeier had a pass almost intercepted on a quick jump by the defensive back. Nussmeier hit Williams for a deep ball down inside the five-yard line. Williams barreled in for another score in the LSU Spring Game on 2nd down.

Drive 13: Tre Bradford broke off a big run to set up back-to-back Nussmeier completions to Malik Nabers and Jack Bech, with Bech hauling in the touchdown.

Drive 14: Daniels was back in and broke off a 12-yard run to start his drive. Daniels couldn’t connect with Lacy on a deep curl. Williams continued to show his ability with strong running on the drive. Daniels couldn’t connect with Lacy in the corner of the endzone. Daniels found Bech in the endzone for a touchdown catch to put the offense up 45-28.

Malik Nabers makes a big play for a TD

Drive 15: Bradford continued to run hard with a first down. Brennan hit Nick Storz with a pass, but he couldn’t hang on. Bradford reeled off another big run to get the offense just outside the redzone. Brennan and Thomas couldn’t connect on an endzone pass, leading to a 2nd and 10. Brennan hit Bradford in the flat to bring up a a 3rd and 2 inside the 10. Brennan found Malik Nabers in the endzone, who made an acrobatic catch on a poor throw by Brennan in a way.

Drive 16: Walker Howard was back in, but couldn’t get his receiver to reel in the pass on 1st down. Howard threw too tall on 3rd down, which led to a punt.

Drive 17: Howard was back in, over throwing Lacy by just a bit as Lacy got free deep. Howard did make a big play though with a wheel route touchdown pass to Corren Norman. That capped the LSU Spring Game as Kelly called for the kickoff units to get some practice to wrap things up.
