One of Louisiana’s top recruits is headed West to play for Deion Sanders in Boulder.

On Saturday, Lafayette Christian Academy’s Ju’Juan Johnson revealed his college choice, committing to Colorado over a final group that also included LSU and Florida.

Johnson became the first 2024 prospect in the Bayou State to commit to the Buffaloes. He’s also the first Top 20 prospect in Louisiana to get on board with an out-of-state program.

The Tigers currently hold two in-state commitments for the 2024 cycle in Warren Easton’s Wallace Foster and John Ehret’s Khayree Lee.

Johnson was offered by LSU in June 2022, and he made multiple visits to Baton Rouge over the past year, including trips to Tiger Stadium. Both Colorado and Florida offered in December, and after campus visits to both schools in January, Johnson revealed his verbal pledge to Colorado.

Johnson is ranked by the On3 Consensus as a 4-star, the No. 18 athlete in the country, the No. 4 recruit in Louisiana, and the No. 195 overall recruit in the class.

Johnson has played quarterback at Lafayette Christian Academy, but all three schools in his final group are recruiting him at cornerback.

This past season, Johnson helped LCA get back to the state title game for the sixth consecutive season. He completed 220-of-369 passes for 4,010 yards, 43 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,280 yards and 17 touchdowns on 206 carries.

Ahead of his decision, Johnson circled Sanders and Colorado as a team that had piqued his interest despite a late scholarship offer.

“Deion Sanders, you know him,” Johnson said. “You see him playing and he was a great player. If you can be a great player you can be a great coach, especially at the same position, so it would be a blessing to have him as a coach. I never thought I’d have to go to Colorado, but it’s a blessing to be around it.”

While Johnson’s commitment to Colorado was made public on Saturday, the 2024 class is still 10 months out for the Early Signing Period and 12 months from National Signing Day. LSU, and others, are expected to continue to recruit the Louisiana four-star prospect in hopes of flipping him away from Colorado.
