Jay Johnson wins a National Championship in Year 2
LSU women’s basketball head coach Kim Mulkey took just two seasons to bring a National Championship to Baton Rouge – the school’s first for either basketball program.
Three months later, Johnson matched the mark with a CWS title for the LSU baseball team in just the second year at the helm.
“This guy just loves baseball so much,” LSU star Cade Beloso said. “There’s not a person in the room that cares more about LSU, cares more about the game of baseball, more about people than this guy sitting to the right of me. This program is so lucky to have Coach Jay Johnson. They’ll have to build a new intimidator for what he’s about to do. He’s not stopping, I promise that.”

Following the program’s seventh National Championship, and first for Johnson as a head coach, the Tigers’ headman opened up on an LSU team that started the season at No. 1 in the polls and finished with a National Championship.
“This was the way it was supposed to go,” Johnson said. “Probably more impressive than winning the national championship is that these guys were national champions every single day from the first meeting until tonight.”
“It’s been a ride of a lifetime … I’m just speechless. All these guys had were massive expectations all year long, and they met them.
“They didn’t just meet them by winning a national championship, they met them every single day.”
