Despite LSU’s lackluster season, LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane made the most of his opportunities and is now an On3 All-American. Delane finished the season allowing just 13 catches on 35 targets for 147 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also had nine pass breakups as the premier coverage cornerback in the SEC.

Over the past three months, Delane has solidified himself as a first round pick with an All-SEC first-team selection as well. On Wednesday morning, On3 announced its All-America team and Delane locked down one of the two cornerback spots. Here’s what On3 wrote:

CB: Mansoor Delane, LSU
“Another “DBU” product, Mansoor is LSU’s latest star cornerback, a true cover cornerback who’s at his best in man coverage. Mansoor’s lone season at LSU was a productive one after starting his career at Virginia Tech. Mansoor had two interceptions and led LSU with 11 pass breakups. He was one of three finalists for the Thorpe Award as the top defensive back in the country.”

Through 11 games, Delane’s performance has helped the Tigers rank No. 1 in the SEC in pass efficiency defense with a 109.7 rating. The Tiger defense is one of only two in the SEC to have more interceptions (14) than touchdown passes allowed (8).

LSU also leads the SEC in passes defended (61), interceptions (14) and pass breakups (47). LSU ranks No. 10 nationally in interceptions, No. 11 in passes defended and No. 17 in pass breakups.

Delane will not be playing in the Texas Bowl for LSU, instead looking to stay healthy and sharp in his preparation for the NFL Draft. Coming into the year, he was thought of as a round 3-4 type of player, but he has elevated his game into being a surefire day one pick.

Why Delane Came to LSU

Delane told the media earlier in the year that coming to LSU was about playing at his best and proving his worth to NFL scouts and GMs. He’s done that and more, as it’s fair to say the move has paid off.

“I live for that challenge; that’s why I came to LSU. That’s why I grew up playing this game: to thrive in those moments and show up when your name’s called. That’s how you make a name for yourself,” Delane said this week. “Nobody’s looking at you, or the game’s not depending on you, but what are you going to do when the game’s on the line and you get to play for your brothers? People are looking for you to step up.”
