LSU cornerback Zy Alexander helped off field vs. Army

Starting cornerback Zy Alexander left the game with an apparent lower leg injury on Saturday night against Army. On the final play of the first half, Army took a shot to the endzone and Alexander intercepted the pass, subsequently returning the interception to the LSU 40 before getting tackled by two Black Knight players and going down awkwardly.
He stayed down, dropping the ball and pulling his helmet off as he was tended to for a few minutes before being helped off the field and unable to put weight on his leg.
Sideline reporter Gordy Rush said CB Zy Alexander was struggling to put weight on his ankle in the halftime locker room, per the Advocate.
Alexander has been the most consistent starting cornerback for LSU this season, while the second spot has rotated between players like Ashton Stamps, Denver Harris, Sage Ryan, and Laterrance Welch. This season has been a struggle for the secondary, but Alexander is one of the mainstays as defensive coordinator Matt House has tinkered with lineups and schemes looking for answers.
“I’m proud of those guys,” Brian Kelly said after the loss to Ole Miss in early October.. “They went out and they competed and did the best that they could given the circumstances. But, that’s our rotation. Those are the four guys (Zy Alexander, Ashton Stamps, Laterrance Welch and Denver Harris). Those are the four guys that we’re rolling with right now.”

Freshman Jeremiah Hughes started the second half for LSU at cornerback and has been playing his way into more snaps throughout the season.
We’ll see when head coach Brian Kelly has an update on Alexander’s status, but with the game against Alabama coming up in two weeks, there’s an urgency to get answers or get to work on what’s next.
LSU’s defense has struggled throughout the season, but over the past few games has shown flashes of significant improvements both up front and in the back end. The secondary will continue to be tested in the final three SEC games of the season against Alabama, Florida, and Texas A&M.
