Matt McMahon and LSU added four-star shooting guard Herly Brutus on Sunday morning, Rivals’ Joe Tipton reported first, giving the Tigers now two commits in the 2026 class, as he joins Australian wing Marcus Vaughns. Brutus is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Florida who had a top six of LSU, Saint Louis, Gonzaga, Utah, Kansas State, and USF.

LSU hosted him on an official visit on the weekend of Sept. 12, making a huge impression and one that eventually landed his commitment. Brutus is ranked as the No. 81 player on Rivals and a player who fits the mold of a versatile scoring guard that LSU has added the past few years in each class.

Brutus felt at home with the staff, posting several photos from the visit and connecting with his new coaches,“I chose LSU because it felt like home away from home,” Brutus told Rivals. “I developed more comfortability with the staff at LSU. Also has a large creole population, and they are descendants of Haiti, so I feel my mom and family will be able to blend in and find comfort, because of our first language.”

LSU has added a significant amount of talent since its struggles in the 2024-25 season, adding a top 20 transfer portal class to pair with three top 100 incoming freshmen. Brutus sees the vision and is excited to be apart of it.

“I believe they will turn things around and be really good this year,” Brutus said. “Then with everyone graduating I will be coming in as a freshman to play some big minutes. I trust them because we talked about the good and the bad of how things could get with me.”

Brutus told Tipton how much this commitment meant to him and his excitement of committing to the Tigers.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join the LSU family. I have definitely come to earn my stripes. Can’t wait to show the LSU family how excited I am to be a Tiger. I’ve worked hard to get this point since I was 8 years old. This is a dream come true. I will not disappoint as I go above and beyond to accomplish my goals on this next level. Thank you for welcoming me to the program.”

The Tigers are still in the hunt for a post presence and potentially a point guard, with center Sam Funches visiting on Oct. 11 and point guard Cam Lomax visiting on that weekend as well. LSU is also in the top five for shooting guard Adam Oummidoch, but it’s unclear if this commitment changes those plans.
