LSU prepared to make blockbuster offer in battle for Lane Kiffin
The news continues to roll in on Friday as LSU is finalizing their offer to Lane Kiffin in an attempt to get him to be the next head coach. Yahoo! Sports’ Ross Dellenger reported that the Tigers’ offer would be roughly $90 million with $25 million annually to spend on the roster. It is an absolutely massive deal that shows how serious LSU is in its pursuit of Kiffin.
It is unclear what figures Ole Miss and Florida are posting in this bidding war for Kiffin to be their next head coach, but LSU has certainly made a statement with this number. The excitement from LSU fans has continued to build as it’s become clear the Tigers now have all hands on deck with the new president, Verge Ausberry as the new athletic director, and a search committee that has seemingly been intent on focusing on Kiffin from the start.
Earlier on Friday, Kiffin met with Ole Miss chancellor Glenn Boyce and athletics director Keith Carter and the aftermath of that meeting was a decision timeline for Kiffin, providing transparency on what’s ahead. Kiffin will coach the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State before making his decision between Ole Miss, LSU, and Florida, per a statement from Carter earlier that day.
“Coach Kiffin and I have had many pointed and positive conversations regarding his future at Ole Miss, including meeting today with Chancellor Boyce,” Carter wrote in a statement. “While we discuss next steps, we know we cannot lose sight of what is most important – our sixth-ranked team that is poised to finish the regular season in historic fashion.

“Despite the outside noise, Coach Kiffin is focused on preparing our team for the Egg Bowl, and together, we want to ensure that our players and coaches can concentrate fully on next Friday’s game. This team is on the cusp of an unprecedented season, and it’s imperative they feel the support of the Ole Miss family in the week ahead. An announcement on Coach Kiffin’s future is expected the Saturday following the game.”
Now, LSU fans and media await a final decision, but in the meantime have to get through the final home game of the season and then wait to see how Ole Miss does next Friday against Mississippi State, uncertain if that influences Kiffin’s decision at all. This has been a journey with several twists wince the firing of Brian Kelly, but it appears the Tigers are on the doorstep of making a massive splash with Kiffin and are ready to expend all resources to make it happen.
