Postgame Injury Update: The latest on two LSU starters

A pair of LSU starters left the game injured against Southeastern on Saturday night. Here’s the latest information to know and what Brian Kelly said.

Running back Caden Durham left third quarter with a sprained ankle and did not return. After the game, LSU head coach Brian Kelly said the team will be getting an MRI on Durham’s ankle and have a better report in the coming days.

Durham is the leading back for LSU this year with 45 carries for 196 yards and two touchdowns through four games and a sophomore that is continuing to find his footing this season.

Defensive end Gabriel Reliford left the game in the first quarter, holding his arm and was quickly escorted to the injury tent. He eventually left the tent and was ruled out of the remainder of the game with his arm in a sling. Brian Kelly said after the game that he was also getting an MRI on his shoulder.

Reliford is a starting defensive end for LSU and totaled five tackles in the first three games of the season, while providing pressure on opposing quarterbacks off the edge. A true sophomore, Reliford is from Shreveport, Louisiana and was a highly touted four star prospect in the 2024 class.

The Tigers head to Oxford, Mississippi next week to take on Ole Miss in a pivotal SEC match up between two top 15 teams. LSU is now 4-0 and looks to be one of the top teams in the country entering the heart of SEC competition with a slate of SEC games on deck.

“I think we start with, we have a standard for the way we want to play, and I thought we upheld that standard,” Kelly said. “There’s no perfection out there, but there was definitely progress. We made the progress that we were looking for. Now, we’ve got to build on that going into Ole Miss on the road against a very good football team.

“Again, the goal here was to play to a standard, not to the opposition. A lot of respect for Coach Scelfo and what he’s done and accomplished, but we had the better team and the better players. So, it then becomes much more about your execution and the things you do, and I thought we did some pretty good things today.”
