Another LSU football signee has captured a state title ahead of enrolling in Baton Rouge and joining the football program.

2024 Aledo (Tex.) linebacker and LSU commit Davhon Keys went out with a three state titles as the Bearcats captured the Texas 5A Division I State Championship on Friday. Spotting Smithson Valley an early 8-0 lead, Aledo ripped off 51 unanswered to win, 51-8.

“We’re just thinking to go out and help out the offense. The offense was struggling early and we knew we had a great defense. We went hard, we went fast and just made up for it,” Keys told On3 on Aledo’s early deficit. “It was natural for us to go help out the offense. If the offense was struggling, we’re going to help them out. If we’re struggling, the offense is going to help us out.”

Keys went out with back-to-back state championships, which took a group effort from everyone for the Bearcats.

“It was a great feeling. Worked for it as a whole team. I’m just so proud of these guys,” Keys said. “Won it with a whole bunch of guys from scout team to offense to defense to even the managers. They all did a great job in helping out.”

Keys finished with 12 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack in the game.

His strong showing led to Keys being named to Defensive MVP honors with his performance.

Career Numbers and Highlights

During his time at Aledo, Keys was part of three state title teams for a high school program rich in football tradition.

Keys finished just two tackles short of 400 for his career (398), totaling 40 tackles for loss, 19 quarterback hurries and eight sacks.

Keys had nine interceptions – including four returned for touchdowns – to go with six fumble recoveries, four forced fumbles. He also blocked a pair of field goals and one punt.

With 35 total touchdowns across his high school career, Keys heads to Baton Rouge as a three-time state champion and the Texas 5A Division 1 State Championship Defensive MVP honors.

Next stop: LSU football

Now, Keys will head to Baton Rouge as an early enrollee, where he’ll look to bring his championship pedigree and production to the Tigers.

“I’m extremely blessed. The Lord put me in a great position,” Keys said. “Came out, played hard, played fast, trusted in my teammates. Blessed enough to get Defensive MVP and now moving onto my next stop at LSU.”

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Keys ranks as a four-star and the No. 33 overall linebacker in the country.
