Week 4 Game Notes: Two LSU QB's shine, true freshmen make debuts

From backup quarterback Michael Van Buren getting his first snaps at LSU to freshmen making college debuts, there is plenty to catch up on from the Week 4 win over Southeastern.

Here’s a look at this week’s “Game Notes” from LSU, which brings Tigers fans a quick rundown on some of the notable takeaways from the 56-10 win in Death Valley.

The LSU Week 4 Game Notes

  1. No. 3 LSU returned to Tiger Stadium for a third-straight game to complete its home stand against Southeastern Louisiana. The Tigers won 56-10 to improve to 4-0.
    • LSU’s winning streak moved to 7 games.
    • The streak dates back to 2024, where LSU closed the year with wins over Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, and Baylor in the Texas Bowl.
    • Brian Kelly coached against Southeastern La. for the first time in his career and is now 1-0 vs. the Lions.
  2. The Tigers improved to 34-1 all-time against FCS opponents, including 3-0 vs. Southeastern Louisiana.
    • LSU has faced 16 different FCS teams, most often Northwestern State (12 times; 12-0).
  3. LSU wore traditional white jerseys and gold helmets with white pants.
    • This was the third time LSU used this combo: vs. Army (2023, W 62-0), vs. South Alabama (2024, W 42-10), and vs. SLU (2025, W 56-10).
  4. The Tigers and SLU met for the third time ever. LSU now leads 3-0 after a 56-10 win.

  6. LSU has won 20 straight and 69 of its last 70 non-conference home games.
    • Last non-conference home loss: 2017 vs. Troy (24-21).

  6. OL DJ Chester was ejected for targeting with 0:26 left in the 3rd quarter. He will miss the first half vs. Ole Miss (Sept. 27).
