4-star CB Camdin Portis joins father’s legacy, signs with Miami Hurricanes
Just as his father, former NFL Pro Bowl running back Clinton Portis had 27 years ago, Myers Park (N.C.) cornerback Camdin Portis officially became a part of the Miami Hurricanes family by signing with his dad’s old school on Wednesday.
Portis is ranked by the Rivals Industry Rankings as the 29th-best cornerback and No. 263 overall player in the 2026 class.
Like his father, Portis plays with more physicality than his size (6-foot-0, 165 pounds) indicates. The tenacious defender played near the line of scrimmage on many occasions, utilizing his willingness to tackle and skill when doing so. His explosiveness and burst at the point of attack was off-the-charts. Portis is a very impressive overall athlete.
He ended his senior year with 49 tackles, three quarterback hurries, two sacks and one forced fumble. Portis was also a stout slot defender, nabbing three interceptions. He’s also a beneficial player to have on special teams, as he blocked a punt and made several open field tackles on punt and kick returns.
The Miami legacy’s recruitment has been quite hassle-free. He committed early to the school in October 2024 and has stayed solid with the Hurricanes since then.

While Miami was always the longtime favorite, Michigan, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Maryland and Wake Forest also showed interest in the 2026 defensive back.
Portis is excited to play for defensive coordinator Corey Heatherman and Miami’s revamped, top-six scoring defense. The Hurricanes also rank eighth in rushing defense and 12th in total defense this season.
“[I’m] very excited because he preached violence [on the field] to my family, and my family fell in love with him as a coach, so did I when I first met him,” Portis told CaneSport. “I just can’t wait to get in that jersey and be part of the family, for real. I’m already honorarily a part of the family, but I want to be a part of it and really help us win.”
CaneSport’s Take
Portis has a flexible skillset that can mesh at different positions. We expect him to most likely play the nickel at Miami. Shades of Keionte Scott. Once Portis adds mass to his frame, we see a definite path for playing time as a versatile piece on the Hurricanes’ secondary.
