4-star OT Joel Ervin signs with Miami: `No greater feeling than that'
Fort Myers (Fla.) offensive tackle Joel Ervin fits the mold of what head coach Mario Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal value from their linemen. He’s strong, powerful and violent at the point of attack, and he’s officially a Hurricane after signing with Miami on Wednesday.
This is a day that Ervin has been looking forward to for a while.
“I literally count down every day, every hour, every minute. It’s amazing, and just knowing what I’ve been working for my whole life, and coming in and going to be able to play the game I love and actually do it. It’s going to be amazing. It’s just a great experience, and it just makes me go even harder for it as well,” Ervin told CaneSport in November. “It means a lot to me because I didn’t start playing football [seriously] until my sophomore year, I didn’t play football my freshman year … Just starting my sophomore year and getting, offers and stuff and getting to know the game more and all that type of stuff, it’s just a humbling experience. And it’s just awesome that I worked so hard for it, and I worked up for it, and I’m gonna be able to showcase my talents in a couple of months, so it’s just amazing. It’s no greater feeling than that.”
Ervin, who Rivals ranks as a four-star prospect and the 27th-best offensive tackle in the 2026 cycle, could play either guard or tackle at the next level. We think there’s a higher chance he ends up at guard, where coaches would still be able to utilize his athleticism on pin-and-pulls and other outside runs.
On his tape, Ervin is a downright mauler in the run game. He also moves well at his 6-foot-6, 280-pound frame. He gets from the first to the second level of the defense quickly for a player at his size.

Ervin was one of Miami’s longest-tenured commits of its 2026 class. He flipped from Louisville to Miami in March 2025 and remained loyal to the Hurricanes, as he did not visit any other school after that point.
He now looks forward to developing at Miami under the guidance of Mirabal.
“It’s really, really exciting because every game I come to, the offensive line is dominating, and it’s just been nonstop ACC offensive linemen of the week. It’s always offensive lineman of the week,” Ervin said after Miami’s 41-7 win over North Carolina State. “So you see everything that he’s doing in the weight room and inside of the film room, anything is paying off. I just know when I come in, he’s going to get me right, and he’s going to push me to my full ability and my full capability.”
CaneSport’s Take
Ervin has the tools to blossom into an All-ACC caliber offensive lineman in the next few years. He’s still new to the sport, so he’s a bit raw, but he has a special foundation of tools already at his disposal.
