Asharri Charles signs with Miami Hurricanes after dominant senior season
Venice (Fla.) four-star 2026 EDGE Asharri Charles received interest from programs like Auburn, Texas Tech and Florida State this fall, but there was little doubt the No. 151 overall prospect and No. 15 EDGE would ever deviate from his pledge to Miami.
Charles signed with Miami Wednesday to formally become a Hurricane after committing to the Canes June 22 shortly after his official visit. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound defensive end flirting with Texas Tech and Florida State and initially had an official visit scheduled with the Seminoles for the first week of the season, but he never visited another program. He reaffirmed his commitment time and time again.
A strong connection with Miami defensive line coach Jason Taylor, who had recruited him hard for more than a year, proved the difference for Charles.
“I feel like Jason Taylor can get me (drafted) in the first round, just like he did with (Rueben) Bain,” Charles told CaneSport in early November. “I feel like I can be how Bain and (Ahkeem) Mesidor are. I feel like I can be one of those guys for sure.”
Charles emerged as a candidate for Florida’s 2025 Gatorade Player of the Year after recording 107 total tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks and four forced fumbles in his first 10 games and was undoubtedly one of the most dominant defensive players in the state. He also took some snaps at receiver and recorded a receiving touchdown.

Charles played a massive role in helping lead Venice to a 14-1 state championship in 2024 and has the Indians primed for another state title run in Florida’s largest classification this year. He should be able to play strong side or weak side defensive end at the college level depending where his skillset is needed.
The opportunity to develop under Taylor also factored into his interest in Miami.
“He’s built like me,” Charles said after his commitment. “He plays the same position as me, but he played it at a high level. …It definitely has a large impact, because he’s been up there (in the NFL) and played. He was the best of the best when he was playing, so the guy knows what he’s talking about.”
CaneSport’s Take
Miami is getting a true pass rusher in Charles who will relentlessly attack the passer and has had a fair amount of success against high-level competition (he’s gone up against four-star USC offensive tackle signee Keenyi Pepe and three-star Miami guard signee Canon Pickett before). There’s a great chance he becomes a name to watch in future years.
