BREAKING: Miami flips coveted LB Justin Edwards from Rutgers

Miami has flipped Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater three-star 2026 linebacker Justin Edwards from Rutgers to land the 14th commit of the Hurricanes’ recruiting class, Edwards announced Saturday evening.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker, who shot up Miami’s recruiting board this spring after receiving his offer from the Hurricanes in early April, becomes the second linebacker to commit to Miami this cycle along with four-star Miami (Fla.) Northwestern linebacker Jordan Campbell and further solidifies Miami’s current top-10 recruiting ranking. He’s also Miami’s second commit to come directly out of official visits after the Hurricanes landed coveted defensive tackle Tyson Bacon 11 days ago.
“I love the environment and culture,” Edwards told CaneSport. “I was a great fit for it. I was around guys that I’m always going to be around — Florida guys. I love that they come together and make a good, strong team. And the coaching staff is great.”
Edwards committed to Rutgers June 8 following his official visit to East Rutherford, but Miami continued chipping away and didn’t back down. The Hurricanes hosted him for an official visit the following weekend and got him to start thinking about flipping.
“We went to coach (Mario) Cristobal’s house (during the official visit), and being around everybody, seeing how he treated everybody, they’re like a good family down there,” Edwards said.
He said he informed the staff Tuesday he was ready to commit to Miami. He said the Hurricanes’ coaches were ecstatic.

“They were really fired up,” Edwards said. “I was fired up too. I had a good talk with coach Cristobal, and he told me he was ready for me to come. And I’m ready too.”
Edwards said he’ll “most likely” shut down his recruitment, although he may examine other schools if something comes up. But he feels confident in his decision and is ready to be a Hurricane.
“It feels great,” Edwards said. “I’m just ready to become a (Hurricane). When I get down in January it’s going to be great. There are great alumni and plenty of guys in the history books for sure. Great guys have come out of Miami. They have a good family bond, and I love that.”
CaneSport’s Take
We started feeling more confident about Miami’s chances to flip Edwards following his trip to campus last weekend — which the Hurricanes initially tried to keep under wraps — and thought there was a chance he’d end up in the class. We didn’t expect it to happen as soon as it did. He’s definitely a high-upside prospect for fans to be fired up about.
