Miami has landed Naples (Fla.) St. John Neumann three-star 2026 defensive tackle Frederic Sainteus for the Hurricanes’ 23rd commitment of this year’s recruiting class.

The Hurricanes beat out Florida, Florida State and Michigan State among others for Sainteus, who has visited Miami in back-to-back weeks including for Miami’s 26-7 win over Florida this past Saturday evening. Sainteus rose on Miami’s radar this fall after impressing early in his senior season and showing substantial improvement from his spring film. He becomes Miami’s third defensive tackle commit this class along with four-star pledge Anthony Kennedy and three-star commit Tyson Bacon.

Buzz initially surrounded Michigan State for Sainteus after he visited East Lansing for the Spartans’ Week Two game against Boston College, although the pendulum swung in Miami’s favor following his visit for Miami’s win over USF Sept. 13. The Hurricanes built on their momentum with the 6-foot-5, 250-pound prospect this weekend against Florida, which led to us entering a formal prediction into the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine favoring Miami to land one of its most coveted new targets this fall.

The Hurricanes still have room for additional defensive linemen this cycle and could feasibly take several more players at the position if the right players show interest in coming to Miami. Miami is continuing to aggressively pursue five-star defensive tackle James Johnson, four-star top-100 defensive linemen Nolan Wilson and Bryce Perry-Wright and recently hosted three-star defensive lineman Isaiah Broughton, among others.

CaneSport’s Take

One new, unexpected under-the-radar and undervalued name has emerged in the fall for Miami each of the last three cycles: EDGE Cole McConathy in the 2024 class, linebacker Kellen Wiley in the 2025 class and Sainteus in this year’s class. Sainteus, who is originally from Haiti and immigrated to the US several years ago, didn’t start playing organized football until two years ago but has taken substantial steps forward each of his first three years playing the sport. He’ll project as a high-reward prospect the staff can bet on making similar progress in future semesters.
