BREAKING: Miami Hurricanes Beat UF For Coveted DT Tyson Bacon In Recruiting Victory for Cristobal & Staff

The Miami Hurricanes won’t face off against the Florida Gators until Game 4 Sept. 20, but go ahead and chalk up a win for UM today. Because the Canes beat out UF for touted 3-star DT Tyson Bacon, who announced his Miami commitment this evening. Earlier CaneSport reported that Miami also beat out Florida for offensive lineman Canon Pickett.
Ohio State and Alabama had also chased the standout, but as our Stephen Wagner reported previously this really was a two-team battle. Wagner also had Bacon on commitment watch heading into his weekend trip.
“I mean, it’s a brotherhood down there,” Bacon said. “Everybody’s close with each other. It’s just real calm. Everyone’s doing their job.”
A 6-4, 265-pounder, the expectation is Bacon will grow into an athletic run stopper who can be quick to make plays in the offensive backfield. Bacon said off his UM visit this past weekend that the message from Miami coaches “was to come be part of the family.”

It didn’t take long for him to take that to heart.
He previously was committed to Tennessee before backing off that in April. Head coach Mario Cristobal, defensive tackles coach Damione Lewis and defensive line coach Jason Taylor all deserve a lot of credit for this recruiting win.
“Coach JT and coach D-Lew, they don’t have some assistant helping them, they like to be hands on, seeing how their kids are doing, seeing how physical their kids are being, how they’re using their bodies and really let the kids use their minds,” Bacon said.
CaneSport’s Take
Bacon, out of Hoover (Ala.) High School, is rated the nation’s No. 57 defensive line prospect by On3. But we think he is very much underrated and should be at least a solid 4-star prospect … perhaps after the coming season that rating will come to pass. Part of it is he simply has to fill out his frame. Once he gains weight and keeps adding muscle he’s going to be an absolute monster in the middle.
