The Miami Hurricanes vs. Notre Dame season-opener on Sunday night features a battle of top 10 teams with the backdrop a historic rivalry dating back 70 years. There’s plenty of twists and turns along the way with national title implications, T-shirts made, etc., etc., etc.

So when you tuned into Good Morning America and saw there was going to be a Miami Hurricanes-related feature, perhaps you were expecting to see some past highlights, some hype interviews, or maybe even talking heads making predictions.

It was none of the above.

And, depending on your point of view, maybe the morning show’s feature found a way to warm a Miami Hurricanes fan’s heart more than watching reruns of UM’s 41-8 blowout of the Irish the last time these teams met.

Their wellness feature was titled “Countdown to kickoff: Meet the Miami Hurricanes’ littlest fan.”

That would be 5-year-old Paislee Squires, a big Miami Hurricanes fan who battled a devastating version of leukemia for three years before finishing her treatment in January.

So what would a Miami fan like Paislee want most, aside from a win over Notre Dame?

Well, how about a live appearance on Good Morning America decked out in a Hurricanes cheerleader outfit with her parents and siblings also showing off their Cane colors? Or getting named an honorary cheerleader by UM, with the cheerleaders coming on set with her and handing her pom poms and doing a `Go Canes!’ cheer? Or hanging out with Sebastian the Ibis? Or better yet, getting a special message from her favorite Miami player, former Cane/now-Titans quarterback Cam Ward?

“What’s up Paisley, you know who it is, Cam,” Ward says in the video. “I heard about your condition, wanted to let you know that we’re praying for you, I’m praying for you, and I heard you also are a big Miami Hurricanes fan so I wanted to surprise you and your family with four tickets to the game Sunday to see the Hurricanes beat the Fighting Irish. Go Canes!”
